Webber and Red Bull Racing announced for Sydney Top Gear Festival

Posted on 7 November 2012

Top Gear hysteria is about to hit Australia with the all-new Top Gear Festival making its local  debut at Sydney Motorsport Park on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th March 2012, with what’s promised to be an incredible line-up of cars and stars, challenges and stunts.

Australian Formula One icon Mark Webber has been announced as a feature guest at the festival, joined by the Red Bull Racing F1 team in action for the first time on a Sydney race circuit. Webber will take the wheel of the F1 race car in Sydney just one week before the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

“Obviously it’s a pleasure to be part of the Top Gear Festival in Sydney and give Aussie motorsport fans another chance to see top motorsport cars in action," said Mark. "I’m really looking forward to being in front of my home crowd, especially just before the Australian GP

. "It’ll be great way to start the 2013 F1 season.”

Also making the trip down under will be the infamous presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May, who will also be joined by The Stig. Jeremy Clarkson said, "Sydney is the perfect place to hold our massive outdoor track festival. Plus it'll give us whinging poms many more chances to get sunburnt and attacked by spiders."

The 2013 event offers a complete Festival experience for visitors at Sydney Motorsport park- every corner of the Park will be ablaze with action both on and off the track. Visitors will see exceptional precision driving and jaw-dropping stunts in the Stunts & Jumps zone; the world’s most expensive and powerful cars in The Stig’s Supercar Garage; never before seen challenges and races across both race circuits including the ‘Star in the Reasonably Priced Car’ challenge; 4x4 and trial bike riders showcasing their skills on the brutal Off-Road Challenge; and so much more.

Michael Hodgson, Managing Director of Brand Events and Top Gear Festival Australia said “The new Festival format we have developed enables visitors to enjoy a full day of outdoor motoring entertainment including world class racing from the Red Bull Racing team, along with stunts and presenter challenges synonymous with the Top Gear television program.”

Australia is the third country in the world to host a Top Gear Festival. Previously hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa and Durban, Ireland the event always boasts a unique line-up of legendary drivers, cars, guest presenters and celebrities.

In Australia the Top Gear TV show can be seen first on Foxtel’s BBC Knowledge, and then on the Nine Network and Go! Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 9.00am (Australian Eastern Standard Time) Monday 12 November 2012.
