ANDRA Pro Series expanded to cover six states in 2013

Posted on 25 May 2012

The Australian National Drag Racing Association has announced that the ANDRA Pro Series 2013 calendar will be expanded from three to six venues spread over six states in Australia.

The 2013 championship will visit Hidden Valley in the Northern Territory, Calder Park Raceway in Victoria, Adelaide International Raceway in South Australia, Sydney Dragway in New South Wales, Willowbank Raceway in Queensland, and the Perth Motorplex in Western Australia.

Making a historic return to Calder Park Raceway in Melbourne, officially sanctioned championship drag racing will be held for the first time in over a decade on November 10 this year when the Top Fuel and Top Bike categories thunder down the time-honoured strip.

In a landmark change, the Pro Series will transition from a financial year calendar to a year on year calendar. The 2013 series will begin in October 2012, and finish in November 2013.

The 2013 racing Series will get underway on October 6, 2012 at Adelaide International Raceway with the first round of Top Fuel and Pro Stock.

Darwin fans will be treated to Top Alcohol and Top Bike over the weekend of August 16-17, 2013.

In all, the Series increases the number of tracks it visits to six overall – up from the three it visited last season.

ANDRA CEO, Greg Humphreys says the 2013 season will be a transitional year and this step is critical in getting the sport back on track.

“We’re going from three ANDRA Pro Series venues in 2011 to six in the 2013 calendar with Adelaide coming on board this season and Hidden Valley and Calder Park being welcomed to the fold,” he said.

“This is a massive achievement in a very short time frame and we are looking forward to working with these new venues, as well as our fantastic venues in Sydney, Willowbank and Perth, to build great events.

“There’s areas we need to work on as we head towards 2014 including eliminating a few of the bottle necks and spreading out our events, but we need to walk before we can run and just getting into these new markets is a major accomplishment.”
